Somebody's Mother by Mary Dow Brine (1816-1913)

The woman was old and ragged and gray

And bent with the chill of the Winter's day.

The street was wet with a recent snow

And the woman's feet were aged and slow.

She stood at the crossing and waited long,

Alone, uncared for, amid the throng

Of human beings who passed her by

Nor heeded the glance of her anxious eyes.

Down the street, with laughter and shout,

Glad in the freedom of "school let out,"

Came the boys like a flock of sheep,

Hailing the snow piled white and deep.

Past the woman so old and gray

Hastened the children on their way.

Nor offered a helping hand to her -

So meek, so timid, afraid to stir

Lest the carriage wheels or the horses' feet

Should crowd her down in the slippery street.

At last came one of the merry troop,

The gayest laddie of all the group;

He paused beside her and whispered low, "

I'll help you cross, if you wish to go."

Her aged hand on his strong young arm

She placed, and so, without hurt or harm,

He guided the trembling feet along,

Proud that his own were firm and strong.

Then back again to his friends he went,

His young heart happy and well content.

"She's somebody's mother, boys, you know,

For all she's aged and poor and slow,

"And I hope some fellow will lend a hand

To help my mother, you understand,

"If ever she's poor and old and gray,

When her own dear boy is far away."

And "somebody's mother" bowed low her head

In her home that night, and the prayer she said

Was "God be kind to the noble boy,

Who is somebody's son, and pride and joy!"

This is my favorite poem as it shows many humanity characteristics. Have you ever seen a peom that shows love, empathy, nobilty, sadness and careless in it, together?

Friends...

Friendship is everywhere. It is present in animals and plants. It is present in offices. schools, everywhere! But, what is friendship? It is when two people who are friends show care and affection to each other. They are like siblings. But, what do friends expect from each other?

A person expects his/her friend to be caring and generous. If you are in trouble, they should help you to solve the trouble by being by your side all the time. They should not be stingy and should share things whether it is food or clothes.

A person expects his/her friend to be trustworthy. A friend should keep his/her friends secrects. She should not go and tell anyone else about it, then making the person promise not to tell anyone. She should keep the secrets to herself. This proves that she could be trusted with everything.

'Honesty is the best policy' is a well known saying. It is also one of the policies friends expect from each other. If my friend accidentally lost my pencil, i would like her to be honest and tell the truth instead of telling lies that she didnt even borrow the pencil.

There are many relations for man in this world. But one of the best relation is friendship. 'Gems may be precious, but friends are priceless' and 'a true friend is the GREATEST of all blessings' are some quotes which shows the significance of friendship and the importance of them in a persons life.

The Hospital: A Place Of Misery And Pain

Once my grandpa and I had to go to the hospital to take his blood test. The nurse took the blood sample and requested us to wait in the lobby for two hours for the result. The lobby was in the center of the hospital. My grandpa fell asleep in five minutes. But i couldn't. I know that the hospital is a place of recovery and it is the turning point of saddness into happiness. But it is also a place of misery and pain. The worst part of it is that I saw, I heard, I felt and I thought and even tasted the misery. I could see people of all ages and sizes flinching as they felt the pain of injection and some crying silently. I saw a child of 5 years being forced to drink a red tonic. The small girl face showed me nothing but disgust. I heard a cry inside the hospital. It was a cry of pain and misery and it was more like a howl from a injured wolf. This howl sent shivers through my spine. I could almost feel the pain and I could just visualise how the pain must have reflected in the person's face. It must have twisted in pain and agony. Just the thought of how much pain must have caused a person to give a cry that seemed to have torn out of his thorat was enough for anyone to hate the hospital. I had to go through two hours of this and at the end when my grandfather woke up and got the results of the test, i ran out of The Hospital: A Place Of Misery And Pain...

War and Mankind

War has ruined everything

Children cannot study anything

People cannot meet their loved ones

And fear each day of losing them to knives and guns!

We cannot go outside the house

Even the animals and also the mouse

People shrieking and shouting everywhere

And sounds of bomb blasting here and there

Trees are gone and also wildlife

These are being sacrificed for human life

For his own deed man is not being kind

If not stopped, next to perish will be mankind!

What if ......you were less than an inch tall?

"I just love carnivals", I told my mother. " So, can I go to the carnival which has opened down the street with my friends? Please?" I asked my mom.
My mom looked at me for a while and said "Okay... but...", before she could finish speaking, I rushed out of the house to play, yelling "Thank you".

The next day, my friends and I ran inside the iron gate and opened our mouths in amazement. My friends ran to the merry-go-around and I went to a tent.
A lady called me and said "Come here, I am a scientist. I will need your help in my experiment. Just touch the ball over there ".
I touched the ball. Suddenly, the ball started growing big. The lady shouted at me to run. But my mind was blank. She pushed me aside. I fainted.

When I woke up, eveything looked so big. I could hear a sound. The sound was so loud that, I closed my ears. I stood up and saw a giant lady picking me up. I jumped out of her hand. It looked like a humongous science laboratory. I ran and got hurt because a huge test tube fell on me.

Suddenly, I heard a crack. The scientist said "My experiment shrank you. But when you jumped out of my hand, the test tube solution changed you to your normal size".
I ran to home. My mom was serving dinner to my dad. She said " You are right in time. Come and eat". There was a small ant near the plate. She blew it away and said "How small the ant is. What will happen if you were less than an inch tall!", and laughed.
I just smiled.
